The 10 steps to find a job.

HOW TO CONVINCE YOUR EMPLOYER THAT YOU ARE THE BEST CANDIDATE FOR THE JOB?

When a market is competitive, you should persuade your employer that you are the best candidate for the job. But how you will manage to do this? Well, to find a job is not learning nuclear physics. So instead of sending your application and just wait to call you back (something that many of us do) think better and follow one of this ten advices which will assist you to find a job quicker.

1. Write sales letter and not letter of recommendation

You should know how to “market” yourself to a possible employer and you application is the first chance to do this. Employers will spend 20-30 seconds to read your application, so you should create a good impression quickly. A letter should catch the attention of the reader with its first paragraph and give him a good reason to call you for an interview. For instance, “if you are looking for a manager with excellent administration skills, a strong network of acquaintances and the ability of increasing your profits by 20%, then please don’t hesitate to contact me.

2. Adjust your CV

If you are using the same CV for the all the employers, then it is time to change your strategy. This method alienates employers because your resume becomes impersonal, inappropriate and does not meet the requirements of the job. Adjust your resume and show that your previous working experience and your abilities match with the particular post. For instance, you are sending your resume in a retail market company; emphasize your experience in retail.

3. Follow up

Do not wait until the employer answers to your application. Act in advance by calling or sending e-mail in the company’s offices and try to have a personal communication. In this way they will give you priority if they have really decided to promote your resume and then you will have the opportunity to answer in any hesitations they may have.

4. Use internet

You may already use internet, but the question is if you are using it for your benefit. Put your resume online, register in websites that advertise companies related to what you are looking for. Give your personal information to be able to find you employers who will be interested.

5. Inform about the hidden jobs

Often it is said that personal recommendations is the best way of marketing and the 70-80% of all the jobs will never by advertised. So how is it possible for someone to get informed about these jobs? The answer is by creating a net of acquaintances. Friends and colleagues (current and future) who are in the same industry as you may have valuable information and recommendations for jobs.

6. Do research on your prospects

About 70% of your time you spend it on your workplace, so it is very important to find institutions, environments and working cultures that are considered to be pleasant. Many areas are interconnected, meaning that you will have many opportunities to find out how the company, where you send your application, operates. So you will have an opinion in the issues that the company faces, which you can use for proposing solutions during the interview.

7. Dress to impress

This is not a puzzle. Just dressed up appropriate for the job you are interested in and not like you are dressed for your current job. Your image is the external impression of your inner world that allows others to make assumptions about your personality and your behavior. Remember: it is better to be dressed more formally than informally.

8. Be on time

Time is valuable to companies where most employees spend more than 40 hours weakly working, the human resources managers should must do interviews in their schedule, something that leaves little space for late interviews. Plan your route, forecast the possible traffic and make sure you get there at least ten minutes before the time of the interview. In this way you can read the companies newsletter and get informed about the latest developments.

9. Make effective questions

An interview is a two-way process: the employer is trying to determine whether the candidate is suitable for the job and the candidate by his or her side to see if the job is suitable for their expectations and requirements. Prepare a list of question you would like yo make about the company and the post. This will make you look prepared and that your interest is genuine.

10. Do not give up

If you received a letter that says “thank you, but we are not interested in hiring you” make you want to give up your job search, do not despair. You will not find another job within one night period and all the experts in this area estimates that the average search job period varies from two to ten months- the more no you received the closer to the important yes you are.

FAQ in job interviews(part 1)

Some useful tips in how you have to handle the questions posed in a job interview.

The following article will make reference to our most frequently asked question in interviews and how the candidate must deal, enlisting methods and examples. In your turn, ask yourself these questions and prepare your answers.

Let’s see the first most frequently asked questions:

1.”tell us a little about yourself”:

As you can imagine, you should never begin your narration with the question “What can I say?”, which is used by many candidates, in which many candidates start but follow the coming advices. Answer the question in about two minutes (you are not presenting your memoirs) and avoid the details (you will list them later when requested). Cover only the following four areas, preferably in list order: a) how many years you are working and in which areas, b) your education c) your responsibilities and your achievements, d) a summary of your working profile. For instance, use a scenario like the one given to us next”: a) my name is…..b) I have been occupied X years as a……c) my current job is……in the company….d) previously I have been occupied as….in the companies… “And close with the phrase “in which of the previously mentioned areas would you like to mention more extensively?”you have just win the first impressions.

2.”in your previous/current work, what is the greatest thing you have achieved?”

Certainly you must provide at least two or three achievements for each of your previous occupations and particularly for the most recent. Please not that, the lack of reference in your achievements an important factor of the failure in a first interview. To just list your tasks explain what you have done, whereas your achievement explain your performance (how well you have done your tasks) and the difference between these two is huge. Answering correctly to this question, you should be able to cover whether were distinguished on your own or if you were a team “player”, if you only handled the same tasks and if you undertaken, whether you assigned responsibilities and to whom, if you contributed in the growth of the company with ideas and proposals, if you changed the procedures and if you created new. Finally, you should indicate the overall impact of your actions to the enterprises you have worked for. So begin with phrases like: “I am proud of the following two achievements in my current post:”, “in the three years I had been working in this company I improved the following”, “I consider a great achievement in my current job the….for the reason…” listing achievements (that you can of course support) you are distinguished from the most candidates, which they lose their composure and give answers like: “I am not prepared to answer this question” or ” I find it difficult to talk about myself”, showing zero confidence..

3.”what was your major failures and how you deal with them?”

There is no possibility that you have no failures to show. Quite the opposite is what will concern your interviewee.  What were they? How major they considered to be and by whom? From your team colleagues or your supervisors? What have cost to you? What have you done to reduce their effects? How you “turned” the situation? Be careful with your style, you are not apologizing.  You should show that you have learned from your mistakes and in the long-term what has happened was for your benefit. Negativism is not allowed. Use phrases like: “at the beginning of my career happened the following…so I had a good lesson, the…” or “I has corrected the situation and eventually came to my benefit, as most …”.

4.”who was to blame for?”

The meaning of this question is obvious. Yes, always we put the blame on others. But you have to take the responsibility of your own actions and acknowledge the size of your fault. Your interviewee will appreciate that, as little people take the responsibility of their faults.

5.”Why do you want to leave your current job?”

You should never answer this question provoking negative impressions against the company, the supervisor or your colleagues, even if there are many reasons to do so. If you do this mistake (I can assure you that many candidates make this mistake) there won’t be another interview for you. Contrary, formulate your answer into a positive way, explaining the reasons why you are interested in moving into the new company and not why you want to leave your current job. The difference between these two approaches is huge. For instance, take a look at this phrase:  instead of the phrase ” I am bored” use ” I need new challenges and I believe that your company can offer them.” Completely different meaning, isn’t it?

6.” What you consider to be the main pros and your cons?”

Pay attention to this question, it is not at all easy or innocent as it seems to be and good preparation is needed in order to answer it effectively. It is asked because the interviewee wants to see if the personality and the behavior of the candidate can match the expectations of the company from the person who is eventually going to hire. Wonder if (and how well) your benefits (or what you think as your benefits) match with the views of the company you are applying. Prepare yourself to support what you say with arguments which will win the impressions. Be careful, because your drawbacks might be what your interviewee wants to avoid. What you should do? List drawbacks that are qualities for the particular post! What I mean? For example, if you are being interviewed for an accountant job maybe you can say: “my strong point is the huge attention I pay to finding errors, so that the company I work for complies with the requirements of the law. This is also my shortcoming, considering the company as part of my family, I dedicate a lot of effort, even after the end of my time, in compliance with the law, but I do it because I want to and these are my principles.” Well you have already taken some extra points……..

How to create a succesful CV.

How to create a successful CV.

What extend should include the summary, the first impression, the right design, etc.

At some point in your career you will need to build a CV. The CV is still the most common way to introduce ourselves to companies, employers and employment agencies. The instructions below will help you to write a good CV:

Every CV must be at least two pages long and should not exceed three pages. Organize your CV in a way that it refers to your skills, your previous working experience and the achievements which are relevant to the requirements of the post you are applying for.

Every CV should begin with a small description of yourself, who are you. In this section you should be objective and avoid the subjective clichés, like: ” I have an inner motivation”, ” I am good at team work”, ” I am born leader and I am expert in communication.”

The first impression: Begin your summary with a feature that matches with the basic characteristics which is essential to the specific job.

Expression: Always express your skills and qualifications in current time.

The CV should be printed and designed correct: the content should be legible and attractive, something that many resumes do not succeed. If your resume does not fulfill these requirements, then you just lose your time.

It is of great importance to be objective: when you finish your resume ask someone- not a relative or friend- to read it. Be ready to revise several times before completing it.

Your CV should describe also your future: if you are studying a new specialty do not forget to mention it.

Do not refer to more than what is needed: it is not essential to include every seminar you have attended. You should not refer to nationality, languages you are not able to speak and every day interests.

5 ways to get a rise!

ASK a higher salary by following some simple steps.

You have noticed that the halls of the office are unusually quiet lately and that there are some empty offices in your department. Your partners and you have taken over some projects, which even if they have some interest, they are not worth to make it a big deal.  The dynamic of the team is excellent and you have the support of your supervisors. So, why your colleagues quit their job? According to researches, they might move into more profitable jobs. Some candidates with skills which are in search in the job market they accept many offers, because the companies compete against each other in employing the most talented employers. Take into consideration all the above facts; there is a possibility that you should get a rise in your salary. To get a rise in your salary without quitting from your current job (especially if you are satisfied) you have to claim it. There are some steps that can help you to get the rise you deserve:

Argumentation

The argument that you want to buy a new house or to pay off the student loans is a failure. Your arguments must be more persuasive from a proficient point of view. Present all the responsibilities you have took, emphasizing in how your attempts helped the company to succeed its goal. For instance, you might help in the designing of the website which increases the sales at 15% or you took responsibilities that give your colleagues the opportunity to save time. Concentrating specific facts and your ability to present them effectively will contribute in your proving to your supervisor that you are a valuable employee.

Do a research in the current salaries:

Before asking a rise from your employee you should do a research to see where the average salaries are for the employees of your specialty. If you estimate your value in the job market you will not underestimate or surmount your provided services.

Prove your value

Your manager may have the best intentions for you but he might not be aware of the project you have managed. You should make sure that your efforts are not ignored, in order to succeed this you should submit a weekly report to your supervisors about the projects you are responsible for, their deadlines and the projects you have completed. Proving your increasing productivity you can assert a salary rise.

Right time.

The most suitable time to ask for a rise is after your evaluation has been complete. However you have to make a reference before the evaluation. For instance you can refer it to your manager after you have submitted an important project. In that case schedule the meeting when your employer is not pressed by deadline.

Prepare an alternative plan

If your rise is not in your employer’s budget, negotiate other benefits, like more time for vacation, a more flexible schedule or a bonus. If those requests are rejected ask your employer how you can assure a future raise and schedule a meeting to see in what stage is your request.

Like every negotiation preparation and politeness are essential

Devoting time and effort to argument in the right way and presenting your value in the company, increases your chances of getting a rise.
