The 10 steps to find a job.

HOW TO CONVINCE YOUR EMPLOYER THAT YOU ARE THE BEST CANDIDATE FOR THE JOB?

When a market is competitive, you should persuade your employer that you are the best candidate for the job. But how you will manage to do this? Well, to find a job is not learning nuclear physics. So instead of sending your application and just wait to call you back (something that many of us do) think better and follow one of this ten advices which will assist you to find a job quicker.

1. Write sales letter and not letter of recommendation

You should know how to “market” yourself to a possible employer and you application is the first chance to do this. Employers will spend 20-30 seconds to read your application, so you should create a good impression quickly. A letter should catch the attention of the reader with its first paragraph and give him a good reason to call you for an interview. For instance, “if you are looking for a manager with excellent administration skills, a strong network of acquaintances and the ability of increasing your profits by 20%, then please don’t hesitate to contact me.

2. Adjust your CV

If you are using the same CV for the all the employers, then it is time to change your strategy. This method alienates employers because your resume becomes impersonal, inappropriate and does not meet the requirements of the job. Adjust your resume and show that your previous working experience and your abilities match with the particular post. For instance, you are sending your resume in a retail market company; emphasize your experience in retail.

3. Follow up

Do not wait until the employer answers to your application. Act in advance by calling or sending e-mail in the company’s offices and try to have a personal communication. In this way they will give you priority if they have really decided to promote your resume and then you will have the opportunity to answer in any hesitations they may have.

4. Use internet

You may already use internet, but the question is if you are using it for your benefit. Put your resume online, register in websites that advertise companies related to what you are looking for. Give your personal information to be able to find you employers who will be interested.

5. Inform about the hidden jobs

Often it is said that personal recommendations is the best way of marketing and the 70-80% of all the jobs will never by advertised. So how is it possible for someone to get informed about these jobs? The answer is by creating a net of acquaintances. Friends and colleagues (current and future) who are in the same industry as you may have valuable information and recommendations for jobs.

6. Do research on your prospects

About 70% of your time you spend it on your workplace, so it is very important to find institutions, environments and working cultures that are considered to be pleasant. Many areas are interconnected, meaning that you will have many opportunities to find out how the company, where you send your application, operates. So you will have an opinion in the issues that the company faces, which you can use for proposing solutions during the interview.

7. Dress to impress

This is not a puzzle. Just dressed up appropriate for the job you are interested in and not like you are dressed for your current job. Your image is the external impression of your inner world that allows others to make assumptions about your personality and your behavior. Remember: it is better to be dressed more formally than informally.

8. Be on time

Time is valuable to companies where most employees spend more than 40 hours weakly working, the human resources managers should must do interviews in their schedule, something that leaves little space for late interviews. Plan your route, forecast the possible traffic and make sure you get there at least ten minutes before the time of the interview. In this way you can read the companies newsletter and get informed about the latest developments.

9. Make effective questions

An interview is a two-way process: the employer is trying to determine whether the candidate is suitable for the job and the candidate by his or her side to see if the job is suitable for their expectations and requirements. Prepare a list of question you would like yo make about the company and the post. This will make you look prepared and that your interest is genuine.

10. Do not give up

If you received a letter that says “thank you, but we are not interested in hiring you” make you want to give up your job search, do not despair. You will not find another job within one night period and all the experts in this area estimates that the average search job period varies from two to ten months- the more no you received the closer to the important yes you are.

How to create a succesful CV.

How to create a successful CV.

What extend should include the summary, the first impression, the right design, etc.

At some point in your career you will need to build a CV. The CV is still the most common way to introduce ourselves to companies, employers and employment agencies. The instructions below will help you to write a good CV:

Every CV must be at least two pages long and should not exceed three pages. Organize your CV in a way that it refers to your skills, your previous working experience and the achievements which are relevant to the requirements of the post you are applying for.

Every CV should begin with a small description of yourself, who are you. In this section you should be objective and avoid the subjective clichés, like: ” I have an inner motivation”, ” I am good at team work”, ” I am born leader and I am expert in communication.”

The first impression: Begin your summary with a feature that matches with the basic characteristics which is essential to the specific job.

Expression: Always express your skills and qualifications in current time.

The CV should be printed and designed correct: the content should be legible and attractive, something that many resumes do not succeed. If your resume does not fulfill these requirements, then you just lose your time.

It is of great importance to be objective: when you finish your resume ask someone- not a relative or friend- to read it. Be ready to revise several times before completing it.

Your CV should describe also your future: if you are studying a new specialty do not forget to mention it.

Do not refer to more than what is needed: it is not essential to include every seminar you have attended. You should not refer to nationality, languages you are not able to speak and every day interests.

5 ways to get a rise!

ASK a higher salary by following some simple steps.

You have noticed that the halls of the office are unusually quiet lately and that there are some empty offices in your department. Your partners and you have taken over some projects, which even if they have some interest, they are not worth to make it a big deal.  The dynamic of the team is excellent and you have the support of your supervisors. So, why your colleagues quit their job? According to researches, they might move into more profitable jobs. Some candidates with skills which are in search in the job market they accept many offers, because the companies compete against each other in employing the most talented employers. Take into consideration all the above facts; there is a possibility that you should get a rise in your salary. To get a rise in your salary without quitting from your current job (especially if you are satisfied) you have to claim it. There are some steps that can help you to get the rise you deserve:

Argumentation

The argument that you want to buy a new house or to pay off the student loans is a failure. Your arguments must be more persuasive from a proficient point of view. Present all the responsibilities you have took, emphasizing in how your attempts helped the company to succeed its goal. For instance, you might help in the designing of the website which increases the sales at 15% or you took responsibilities that give your colleagues the opportunity to save time. Concentrating specific facts and your ability to present them effectively will contribute in your proving to your supervisor that you are a valuable employee.

Do a research in the current salaries:

Before asking a rise from your employee you should do a research to see where the average salaries are for the employees of your specialty. If you estimate your value in the job market you will not underestimate or surmount your provided services.

Prove your value

Your manager may have the best intentions for you but he might not be aware of the project you have managed. You should make sure that your efforts are not ignored, in order to succeed this you should submit a weekly report to your supervisors about the projects you are responsible for, their deadlines and the projects you have completed. Proving your increasing productivity you can assert a salary rise.

Right time.

The most suitable time to ask for a rise is after your evaluation has been complete. However you have to make a reference before the evaluation. For instance you can refer it to your manager after you have submitted an important project. In that case schedule the meeting when your employer is not pressed by deadline.

Prepare an alternative plan

If your rise is not in your employer’s budget, negotiate other benefits, like more time for vacation, a more flexible schedule or a bonus. If those requests are rejected ask your employer how you can assure a future raise and schedule a meeting to see in what stage is your request.

Like every negotiation preparation and politeness are essential

Devoting time and effort to argument in the right way and presenting your value in the company, increases your chances of getting a rise.

10 mistakes you should avoid if you want to get the job!!

10 Mistakes you must avoid in a job interview

Which are the biggest “pearls” that people say or do while they were interviewed for a job?

If you have a job interview arranged there are some things that you should avoid like arriving there late or insulting your future boss. The HR association shared with the CarrereBuilder.co.uk the biggest “stupidities” they have seen from the interviewees. This list is a guideline of what you should absolutely avoid in your job interviews.

1. When honesty is not the better tactic.

When one candidate was asked the reason why he was interested in working in the company, he answered: ‘because I like the receptionist.’

2. Always retain your professionalism

One candidate turn on the radio to listen to the song of James Brown “I feel good”.

3. Show only the appropriate for the post skills.

One interviewee interpreted the question “Can you show us your skills?” so literally that he started practicing magic tricks to the interviewers.

4. Know the job.

The phrase “to be in the right place, in the right time.” Wasn’t familiar to one candidate, who not only goes to the wrong interview but also in the wrong company!

5. Hide your killer inside you.

Without any consideration, one candidate gave the impression to the people who took her interview that she had murdered her husband.

6. Don’t let your focus to get distracted.

There is no excuse in having your mobile phone on while being in an interview. But, this is something which was unknown to a candidate who checked his mobile in every chance.

7. Show your interest

The interviewee asked the candidate the question “Where do you see yourself after 5 years?” so as to estimate his ambitions. The answer was “I don’t have any specific goals; I just want a good salary.”

8. Don’t show wrong commitment.

In one application for a weekend job one candidate inform his future employer that he couldn’t work when his favorite team plays football.

9. Say no to violence.

When the hr manager asked a candidate how he would deal with an unsatisfied customer, the candidate answered that he would prefer to have a fight, rather that solving the matter discretely.

10. Don’t look for love

One candidate decided to move on one step forward and ask his interviewee on a date.

Beside the phrasal mistakes that the candidates had committed, the research showed the most common mistakes during a job interview. As a consequence, 62% of the candidates didn’t manage to catch the interest due to bad attitude, followed by the 49% who was arrogant, the 44% who commented negative about his or hers last boss and the 25% who hadn’t the ability to answer the questions effectively. If you want to know how to succeed in your next job interview:

Study:

A job interview is fundamentally the ability to “sell” yourself persuading your new managers that your skills, your qualification and your education is a worthy investment.  Try to find out information about the company where you are applying and think about possible situations that you will have to deal and find some appropriate solutions.

Don’t get too “open”.

Avoid revealing too many information about your personal life. Like in the aspect of your curriculum vitae which is referring to the hobbies and interests. Try to share information that are somehow  relevant to the job you are interested in. for instance, if you are applying for a manager’s position, the fact that you were the leader of the rugby team can prove your leadership and organizational abilities. Always behave in a proficient way.

Be honest

Don’t pretend to be something that you are not, or that you know the answer to a question when you don’t. it is not compulsory to everything.  The people which conduct your interview are not willing to ” arrest” you, they just want to ascertain if you can solve a problem. If they ask you a question and you don’t know the answer it is better to explain the steps you will follow to find it.

Prepare your answers.

The 80% of the questions in job interviews can be divided into three categories: general questions, skills questions and questions that are based in the so called case scenario. It is possible you will be asked about yourself, your motivation, to describe one time you have worked effectively as a part of the team and if you want to change something of your past. Think about your possible answers.

Be positive

Talking about your last employer in a derogatory manner it is not recommended, even if your employee is the devil itself. This will damage your proficient profile and also permits everyone who conducts you an interview to think that you will do the same thing in the future.

Everything you need to know about online learning.

Distance learning is not something new, as distance learning programs were available in the past. What is relevant new is that there are many online distance learning classes. We are communicating online, we are socializing online, and we are even working online. So why don’t we study online?  That is one interesting question and the answer to this question is even more interesting. But whether an individual should take an online course is a personal matter and depends on his or hers needs and qualifications.

Many people have heard about the online distance programs, but they don’t know what they are exactly and how they work. Distance learning is the process of completing successfully a coursework or a course program without the physical presence in a school campus. There are many types of distance learning but the online distance learning is rightly the best way to attend a distance class. Technologies are used in the communication of the tutors and the students. With online classes students can schedule the communication with their tutor according to their time.  Some types of communication do not demand the presence of both the parts like exchanging e-mail. However, students can have a real communication with their teachers through telephone or web conferences.  Other technologies which are used by online schools are: video conference, audio CD’s, message board forums, print materials, voice mails, fax, videocassette or DVD.

There are certain advantages of the online courses. The most important is that they give the student the chance to learn through the privacy and the convenience of their houses. For example, many people who have to manage a professional career or are engaged with family responsibilities and do not have the time to attend regular classes. Most of the online programs allow their students to follow their own pace during the learning process. For example, if you have an assignment and you weren’t able to deliver it on time, your teacher may give you some extra time to complete it. One more important feature is that people with restricted mobility can now have access in high-quality college and universities programs. Foreigner students who want to obtain a degree, for instance, from a U.K University or from a college in the United States, now are able to do it from their house, saving a great amount of money and avoid moving abroad.

However, online learning is not suitable for everyone. Unfortunately, before somebody applies to an online learning class should take into consideration that he or she must have certain characteristics and skills in order to complete the coursework successfully. First of all, the candidate should have a great amount of self-motivation and self-discipline. These two aspects are extremely important, as during the classes the contact with the tutor is not in an everyday and face-to-face basis. Also, the students have to organize their tasks on their own and set their personal goals. Moreover, they should be able to avoid the constant distractions. For example, if you are trying to study and your friends call you and suggest you going out, you should be able to tell what is most important. In distance learning there is a lack of social communication and personal interaction. This gap must be filled by the adequate reading comprehension skills, as searching information would be essential in order to write an assignment or a task.

If you think that online studies is the best choice for you whether you want to expand your knowledge in an already proficient field, or acquire a certificate, diploma or degree, independently of you level(post-graduate, MBA, etc), you should be careful while you are choosing your school. Choosing the right school is essential for your success. Before applying to a class, take some time on research, compare and contrast the different schools. Then pick up the school that offers the best program in the field of your interest. Communicate with the person in charge and ask for more information about the school accreditations, the available programs and generally ask questions to find out things that are not covered in their website and/or they brochure. Don’t hesitate to interview the counselors and ask them about their studies, their proficient career, how many years they are tutoring, their experience etc. These few steps will help you to select the best school for your needs and your requirements.

Now that you have chosen your online program it is time to apply. Applying to some online programs can be really nerve-wracking. There are some schools that have relax admission guidelines, for examples they accept everyone. However, there are other schools which are really selective on who candidates they select. The majority of the online colleges fall somewhere in the middle. They are looking for students who meet the standard requirements such as high GPA in previous coursework and well-written application essays. Some of the colleges take into consideration if the candidate has some relevant experience with the applicable field. Many programs require submitting several letters of recommendation and an application essay. In your application essay write why you want to take the course, your future goals, your curriculum vitae, your professional experience, your previous coursework, your skills and your qualification. Online colleges want to see what other people think of you, so ask the appropriate people to write a recommendation letter for you.

To conclude, online learning programs can be ideal for some people, while some other people must avoid it. Before applying to a school program be sure that you are self-motivated and self-discipline. You should not apply to the first school you come across online. Spend some time researching the best one for you. When the time of application is come, don’t get frustrated, just write an excellent application essay and include some letter of recommendation. Good luck!

The fact that it is the only forest of its kind not only in Greece but also in Europe makes it so worthy visiting. Also, don’t neglect to taste the local cuisine goodies. Crete’s cuisine is the model of the Mediterranean balanced diet.

You should visit Crete: if you are bored of cosmopolitan islands, if you want to discover the tradition and the history of Greece, if you want to have a group travel, if you want to combine entertainment and relaxation.

You should not visit Crete: if you don’t want to rent a car or have a tour.

5. Zakynthos

Zakynthos is also known as the “flower of the East”.  It is famous for its diverting characteristics which make it such a unique destination. The  lush and flourish hill sides which are full of fragrant wild flowers and plants set this island apart from the others.  Some of its sandy beaches consider being as one of the finest in all Greece, such as the famous beach of Navagia (ship-wreck beach).if you are environmentalist or at least you take grant of the environment issues, some of Zakynthos beaches are protected because there the endangered species of the turtle careta-careta lays their eggs in the soft sand. The nightlife in Zakynthos is as rich and various as in all the other islands in Greece. You can choose between crowded clubs and bars to quiet cafes and taverns. In Zakynthos town there is a range of archeological sites and monuments like The Orthodox Church of Agios Dionisios, the patron saint of the island, and the Agios NIkolaos of the Molos, as well as the Catholic church of Saint Mark which is quiet impressive. There are several splendid archaeological sights on Zakynthos Island, Greece the finest of which is the Mycenaean Domed Tomb in Keri and the Mycenaean Graveyard in Kambi. The Stone Bridges in Alykes and Argasi are some of the most photographed sights on the island. In Argasi, we suggest you also make a stop at the Medieval Castle and the Mini Zoo. If you are a museum-goer, you can admire the collections at the Folklore Museums in Katastari and Vasilikos, or the Maritime Museum in Tsilivi.

Zakynthos is perfect for you: if you are environmentalist, if you are interesting in religious sight-seeing, if you want to visit the cleanest beaches, if you are tired of the cosmopolitan atmosphere of other Greek islands

You should not visit Zakynthos: If you are fond of the cosmopolitan character of other Greek Islands.

Cinco de Mayo-Fiesta time!!

While I was browsing the net for useful party ideas, I came up with the celebration of the Cinco de Mayo. As I live in Greece, I am not familiar with all the american’s celebrations.

My interest was triggered. It is great to have parties (or fiestas) but it is more great if you now why you are celebrating. After all, for some people the celebration of this day is a part of their history and their tradition.

I include the information I found about the historical fact of Cinco de Mayo, because undoubtebly there are many people who does not know the story too.

Cinco de Mayo or the fifth of May  is celebrated annually in Mexico and wherever there are mexican communities or the mexican culture is celebrated. Families, neighbors and friends gather all together and have a fiesta to memorize this day.

In 1862, 4,000 mexican soldiers overcame a 8,000 well-equiped frence amry and they saved America from the invasion. This battle is known as La batalla de Puebla or the Batle of the Puebla, and it took place(you guess it right…)in the 5th of May.

Today, fiestas is take place in all the mexican houses and even “grigos” , who do not know exaxtly why they are going to a Cinco de Mayo fiesta, are happy to join the festive mood and the fun of a fiesta. Everyone is welcome to feast on the honor of that day with mexican food and music.

NO TIME FOR SIESTA, IT IS TIME TO FIESTA!!
